I've just been scammed by 'Sandra Love'. I was originally contacted on Friendsreunited Dating (UK). 'Her' profile: Smilinglady07 looked very believable except she is 35 and looking for a man aged 40-65 within 500 miles of a UK address. Very attractive photo. 'She' took me from the dating site to email: firstname.lastname@example.org very quickly and had removed her profile from friendsreunited with a lame but believable excuse. Asked me to do the same which i did (to show trust etc.) I did find that a Smilinglady07 had removed a profile from Matchmaking4men a few months ago
'She' used the email address: love love <email@example.com>. Within a day I was lured into Yahoo instant messaging for grooming - her Yahoo ID being: sandra love (iamwithlove03) and mobile Mobile: +2348025307438. Completely took me in with story of buying art and sculptures in Nigeria for a couple of weeks, hating the place and couldn't wait to get back to UK. 2 seriously bad relationships including an ex's death. Said all the right things - if only 'real life' women were as nice and easy as this appeared to be! Within 2 days I was smitten and fell for a 'birthday' scam. The conversation went like this: 'When's your birthday?' I tell her. 'Guess when mine is? she says. I have a couple of wrong guesses and am told it's tomorrow. I was then subtly invited to send some money for her to get a present to remind her of me. Alarm bells rang, especially as she found my nearest Western Union office almost immediately, knew exactly what to do and then kindly loved and bullied me to go out straight away and send the money. This from a lovely, kind, unselfish girl who enjoys the 'simple' things in life and making other people happy.
I kind of knew it was scam but just didn't want to believe it. Also I thought it was the only way to find out. Wish I'd come to this site first! It wasn't a huge amount of money (£150) and I learnt a good, hard lesson. For some reason she foolishly gave me an address that wasn't even necessary for sending the money. Now she has become: Sandra B***d, 4 Idowu Martin Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.Nigeria 234-01 I haven't given the name because I found the real Sandra B***d on facebook, complete with her photo that 'Sandra Love' had used when instant messaging (not the same one that was on the dating site profile). So they have simply stolen this poor girl's name and photo from facebook to use for collecting stolen money. I'm not sure whether I should alert her to what has happened? Again she is stunningly attractive to the point where at first sight I even thought 'Siren' to myself. I should have gone with my gut feeling and used the maxim that if it seems too good to be true then it is! However there's no fool like an old fool and they know this as well.
I've been luckier than a lot of others I've read about as it was all over in a week and I haven't lost a huge amount of money. I'm more angry than upset and feel a complete fool but have learnt a good, hard lesson. I now understand why certain questions I asked were ignored and luvvy duvvy stuff inserted to distract me.
Despite being despicable criminals they are obviously very good at what they do and know all the right buttons to press. I realised the worst when I never received a thank you by text after sending the money. I assumed that would be the last contact, so later sent a text saying i thought I'd been a bit mean, that she was worth more and would she like me to send more money for a better gift the next day (the so called birthday). It worked a treat and she was back online in 5 minutes loving and thanking me for the gift but saying there wasn't enough for the ipod (they must cost a fortune in Nigeria). I cut the chat short with an excuse and money didn't get mentioned. I am expecting loads of texts and online loving chat tomorrow so I will waste as much of their time as possible before telling 'her' to f*** Off. i think I will suggest that I get a flight to Nigeria to see her next week to observe the reaction!
